Find Parks in New York

Whether you’re looking for a place to play a game of tennis, a spot for picnicking, or a beautiful nature trail to walk on, New York has plenty of parks for you. Regardless of the season, people love to visit NYC’s parks because they provide a much-needed respite from city life. Plus, they’re great for socializing and getting out of the concrete jungle!

Astoria Park

Astoria Park is one of Queens’ most iconic waterfront parks, boasting a 330-foot-long pool and expansive views westward along the East River. It’s also a popular destination for outdoor sports, with tennis and basketball courts and a dedicated track. In summer, the park hosts a host of activities and festivals. Among them, Warm Up is a free music festival that takes place on the summer events stage near the East River. It’s a mix of experimental, techno, rock, psychedelic, reggae, and more. It’s a great opportunity to relax in the neighborhood and experience local artist’s right in your backyard. Another fun activity is visiting one of Astoria’s many museums. For instance, the Upper town Firefighters Museum is an educational institution that teaches visitors about local history and offers exciting exhibits like vintage fire engines and videos, and pictures of local blazes.

Brooklyn Bridge Park

One of Brooklyn’s most popular attractions, this 85-acre waterfront park is a great spot to relax and enjoy the views of NYC. It offers a variety of amenities, including a water park and bike trails. If you’re looking for some entertainment, try a game of laser tag or take a trip to Time Out Market. There’s also a playground and a carousel. The park features 6 piers alongside the river south of the Brooklyn Bridge. Each pier has its unique activities and attractions to offer visitors. To the north of the piers, you’ll find Empire State Park and Main Street Park, which both have a nice big lawn to sit down on. They both have excellent views of downtown Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge as well.

Central Park

With formal gardens, woodlands, rocky outcrops, and cool lakes, Central Park is the perfect place for relaxation and to escape the bustle of New York City. With over 843 acres, the park is one of the world’s most popular recreation areas and offers visitors a variety of amenities and activities.

The park was designed in the 19th century by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, who sought to create a natural space that would be appealing to New Yorkers from all walks of life. The result was a vast green space that is still a haven for wildlife, including a stopover on the Atlantic Flyway for more than 200 bird species. The park is home to many famous attractions, from sports fields and a carousel to waterfront restaurants and a zoo. It is a popular destination year-round, but it’s particularly busy during the summer.

High Line

The High Line is a unique linear park that rises from the Meatpacking District to Chelsea, straddling the elevated rail lines of New York City. This 1.45-mile (2.3-kilometer) elongated walkway is the perfect place to take in an NYC sunset or stargaze at night.

The park is typically open year-round, although hours vary from season to season. It’s a popular spot for both tourists and locals, but the walk can get crowded in the summer. The park was conceived by Joshua David and Robert Hammond, who were motivated to preserve the old elevated train tracks for use as a public space. It opened in stages: the first section (Gansevoort Street to 20th Street) opened in 2009, the second (30th Street) in 2011, and the third (the Rail Yards) in 2014. The fourth and final section called the Spur at 30th Street and 10th Avenue opens this summer. The Spur will include a new outdoor area called the Plinth, which will showcase art installations by local artists.
